Verifying System Setting for DVD Autorun Capability

For any system to be able to automatically run a DVD-ROM, there is a key system setting that must be made. This is a default setting, but sometimes it gets un-set.  (The following instructions are for Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME.  For Windows 2000 or Windows NT, consult your administrator for assistance).

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel and double click on System, then click on the Device Manager tab.  A window will appear.

Locate and highlight your DVD ROM drive and then click on Properties. A window will appear when you select the Settings tab.

Make sure that Auto insert notification is checked.  If it is, then your system is set properly.  If it is not checked, this could explain why the DVD-ROM does not run automatically when inserted in the DVD drive. Click the option box next to Auto insert notification and then click on OK.  Now insert your DVD and see if it runs automatically.

If it does not run automatically, use the manual procedure explained in the inside tab of the DVD-ROM.
